Anyone remember THE BOOK OF RULES presented before the child John Locke when tested by Richard, who ended the test when John chose the knife instead of the book?

Although there have been many verbal references to the rules (even by Ben "...so... He's changed the rules...") by Jacob, MIB, the bloody young blonde boy in the shining light, anyone remember seeing the book since that once?

Who gets to read it? To whom do they apply? Who decides if one is broken? Who carries out any consequence. Who can CHANGE it?

Or is it some real work of literature?

I just thought of a crazy theory. Lost has a great way of hiding things in plain sight, so WHAT IF the sideways story didn't begin in Season 6? WHAT IF it started in Season 5 during the finale? How do we know that Jacob touched the castaways in their past tht we've known. How do we know it wasn't in the sideways story and when he touched them, "gifted" them, he helped them be the bigger people, more mature people that we've seen in season 6. He touched them all (minus Hurley from what we saw) at pivotal moments, life changing moments that contributed to the people we've known them as from Seasons 1 - 5. Interesting thought.
